Tohupiri

Tohupiri were inspired by the arrival of their first pēpi. They made the decision to speak only Māori to their pēpi and their wider whānau wanted to support this decision through using as much te reo Māori as possible with their tamāhine.

They quickly realised that collectively they didn't know the Māori terms for a number of baby-related products and household items and the common vocab-learning technique of placing sticky notes around the house failed them when the notes curled up or lost their stickiness and fell off.

So they decided to order some custom labels, spending their "spare time" when baby was asleep, putting together a vocabulary list, researching removable label manufacturers, ordering samples and producing what was to become the first ever Tohupiri pack. They were so happy with the results that they wanted to make the labels available to other whānau.
