Vehia Wheeler, a child of Moana Nui a Hiva, was born and raised in Waiau, Oʻahu but traces roots to Tahiti island and the Mangareva archipelago in the South Pacififc. After studying Pacific Island Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (for her undergrad and masters) she became inspired by the Oceanic philosophers she learned about and from while there. She now lives in Tahiti, closer to her family roots, working towards justice and independence for our Pacific islands.
