Fetu Flower by Petone Groom
The four-pointed star, often seen as a flower, is a familiar traditional Samoan practices such as siapo and tatau. Over time, this shape has also become a common motif in Samoan-inspired brands and visual art in Aotearoa. In this sculpture, NZ-born Samoan artist Petone reimagines the Fetu motif using digital 3D tools, exploring how a well-known symbol can grow, shift and take on new meaning when brought into physical space.
Petone is a NZ-born Samoan artist whose practices uses digital fabrication as a way to extend Samoan craft traditions into contemporary and future-making contexts.
