Koloamatangi. An exploration of New Works by Siniva Williams; Curated and Accompanying Text Written by p.Walters.
Opening March 1st 11am
The artist writes:
“Koloamatangi; a tribute and offering to my Nanna Siniva and the divine treasures she created, not only in her art but also through the memories she instilled in me.
The name Koloamatangi itself carries profound significance, with Koloa meaning “Treasures” or “Goods" and Matangi meaning "Wind"; as well as an ancestral surname within my own Whakapapa.
This name perfectly captures the essence of the work presented—each aspect a koloa, a treasure and extension of my Nanna's legacy.”

Text for Koloamatangi by p.Walters

A few nights ago, I glanced up to our Moon, one of her many faces. That Great Goddess, a crescent fingernail, or cheeky smile suspended in darkness, and I am reminded of my Mothers Mother, my Nana, Rona.
I’m often reminded of my Nana when I look up to the Moon, as I also recall the pūrakau of Rona Me te Marama.
The story of a kotiro named Rona, who got snatched up by the Moon for yelling insults and profanities at the Lunar Sovereign, and who now controls the tides and waters, and by extension the tides and waters of our Emotions.
I know my Nana wouldn’t be profane enough let alone silly enough to Curse the Moon out but I know she did have a sharp tongue , which my Mother inherited, which I inherited.
I miss my Nana, I miss being a child and spending the holidays with her, I miss being spoiled by her, I miss her cooking my god I miss her cooking, isn’t it sick, that I’ll never be able to taste her cooking again like Jesus Christ what a dark thought, I never pray that upon anyone - I miss my Nana, though we keep in contact regardless of her physical presence on this Earthly Realm. Love you Nana hehe

Presented before you are Art Works and Gestures by Siniva Williams, local Artist to the Kingdom of South Auckland, Elam Graduate, Mother, Friend, Gorgeous Being, Image Creator & Overall Maker (in my fake humble Tongan opinion.)
These images were made in the spirit of Love/Ofa, Whakapapa/Ancestral Lines and in particular, One's Sacred Relationship with one’s Grand/Mother/s.
Koloamatangi behaves as one more neuron, one more branch, one more extension.
One more exercise in Love, in Devotion, in Reverence & Veneration of our Divine Feminine and Matriarchs.
The Many Mothers in our Lives.
A continuation of Ancestral Power, Knowledge Transference & Mana. A continuous Line; never broken, never will be, never ending.
A continuous dialogue between a Mokopuna and their Nana.
A dialogue that will never end.
A dialogue that was ongoing long before we drew our first breath.
A dialogue that will continue, until the day we see our Old People again, face to face.
